“The Goal” scores

Locally made small budget film wins big
praise
Denver— “The Goal,” a feature film by local
filmmaker, Darla Rae has achieved more this year than Rae every dreamed.
Among the latest praise the “The Goal” has received are the “Mention
d’Honneur" and Regione Lombardi awards from the International Jury
of Sport Movies and TV, 2006 at the 24th Milano International FICTS
Festival in Milan, Italy. The Milano International FICTS Festival is
sponsored by the International Olympic Committee.
Based on a true story, “The Goal” is an uplifting dramatic feature film
about two quadriplegic athletes inspired to rebuild their lives by
overcoming obstacles on the court of Quad Rugby, a fast-paced sport
which is the only sport that was specifically designed for
quadriplegics. The film co-stars Jason Regier, a genuine World Quad
Rugby champion, who also serves as one of the film’s executive
producers.
This year, “The Goal” also received four Dove Foundation
“Family-Approved” seals, was awarded Best Inspirational Film at Temecula
Valley International Film Festival, Golden Ten Award for Best Sports
Based Feature Film at Mumbai International Film Festival, and the
Independent Spirit Award at International Family Film Festival. The film
was also bought for United States and International television and DVD
distribution by Miami-based Maverick Entertainment Group.
Steve and Jason are two talented and goal-oriented athletes, brought
together by tragic accidents. With the help of their family and God, the
young men start to rebuild their lives. These two adrenaline junkies
discover a team sport worthy of their highly competitive spirit, Quad
Rugby. This sport is played by world-class athletes with gladiator-like
wheelchairs, and combines elements of basketball, football and ice
hockey. Quad Rugby used to be called Murderball, because of the
aggressive nature of the game. The sport renews their spirits, and Steve
and Jason start to live life again, –a new life that is different not
over.
“I am so ecstatic about what is happening with this film. It has always
been my dream to be a filmmaker, and my dream has come true. This is
something that I love doing and I hope it enables me to give others the
way I have always wanted to,” said Rae. “The Goal,” can be rented at
“Blockbuster”, and purchased online at Blockbuster, Barnes and Noble,
Circuit City, and Best Buy. Some of the profits from “The Goal” will be
put into a fund to build a facility in the Colorado region for all
wheelchair athletes.
Although “The Goal” was released nationally on DVD, copies of the film
can be purchased on the “The Goal” website at www.thegoal-film.com. More
information about wheelchair rugby can be found on the website as well.
